Vision
Debney Park Secondary College is committed to the establishment and maintenance of a learning community that provides opportunities for young people to work together to achieve academic, personal, social and emotional well-being and maturity. The college experience will equip our young people to make informed and successful transitions to the post-school destination of their choice and to see themselves as learners for life.
Values
We are guided by a set of core values and principles:
Equity – building and developing tolerance, an acknowledgement of diversity and a respect for difference
Responsibility – individual and collective responsibility for our actions and environment and participative decision-making
Integrity – the promotion and modelling of consistently honest and ethical behaviour
Achievement – the promotion and pursuit of excellence and celebrating personal achievement and success
Connectedness – developing a sense of belonging, community and engagement both within and outside the college
Resilience – enhancing self-esteem, confidence and well-being, supporting and challenging students through rich and expanding experiences
Across the college we aim to:
- ensure that all young people have both high expectations of what they can achieve and a healthy self-esteem;
- provide the learning environment that ensures that the literacy and foundation learning needs of all young people are addressed. This includes providing reinforcement, extension and enrichment for the able and intensive intervention for those with learning difficulties;
- remove the personal, social, cultural and community barriers to learning demonstrated through low self-esteem, negative cultural experiences, socio-economic background and/or family breakdown;
- equip all young people with the cultural literacy skills and experiences to better understand and define and shape their place in the world;
- adopt a pedagogy that ensures successful learning is central to our interaction with young people through knowing who our students are, creating a sense of belonging, showing that we care and setting clear and achievable targets for all young people;
- provide opportunities for all students to develop high level thinking skills, and
- provide hope for a bright and rewarding future.
